History of Church Division Over Institutions

This class took place over Zoom on Thursday evenings. In these classes, we looked at what the Bible has to teach about history of church division over institutions.

Sponsoring Church
In the series: History of Church Division Over Institutions

In this lesson, we look at churches handing over their work to the oversight of another church. What scriptural principles are involved? How do some try to establish authority for it and why are those arguments not a proper use of the scripture?

Institutional Boards
In the series: History of Church Division Over Institutions

Why did many churches filled with children of God end up dividing over churches supporting orphan homes, colleges, etc.? Why did some object to churches “doing their work” through these other organizations and turning over the oversight of the work to an institutional board? We briefly look at some of these ideas in this lesson.

Fundamental Principles
In the series: History of Church Division Over Institutions

In this lesson, we look at some fundamental principles that are involved in the division that occurred in the 1950s and 1960s over churches supporting or operating organizations (institutions) separate from the church. There are also some other related problems, like church benevolence to those who are not Christians and “sponsoring churches.”
