Why the Old Testament Is Still Necessary

If Christians are saved by grace through faith and live under the Law of Christ—not the Law of Moses—why do we still need the Old Testament in our Bibles today?

In this study from the book of Galatians, we examine why the Old Testament is far more than a set of ancient rules. While keeping the Mosaic Law is not necessary for salvation (and attempting to be justified by it means falling from grace), the Old Testament scriptures remain essential, inspired, and deeply profitable for believers today.

In this video, we explore:

  • The Perfection of the Law: Why the Old Testament law was never "bad," but perfect for its intended purpose (Psalm 19).

  • A Tutor to Lead Us to Christ: How the Old Testament points forward to Jesus, revealing His identity and God’s eternal plan for both Jews and Gentiles (Galatians 3:24, Acts 15).

  • Evidence and Authority: How Jesus and the apostles used Old Testament prophecy to prove the Gospel and guide the early church (Acts 1, Acts 17).

  • Practical Wisdom and Moral Clarity: How Old Testament principles, examples, and wisdom books equip us to be complete in every good work (2 Timothy 3:15–17, 1 Corinthians 10:11).

We cannot fully understand the New Testament without the foundation of the Old Testament. Join us as we dig into scripture to see how God's Word fits together seamlessly for our learning, patience, and hope.
