Preparation for Judgment

In this study, we explore the parables of Jesus that focus on preparation for judgment. Whether we look at the destruction of Jerusalem, the end of time, or the end of our own personal lives, the principles of God’s justice remain the same: He expects us to be ready, faithful, and busy with the work He has given us.

We examine the accounts in Matthew 24 and Luke 12, focusing on the responsibility we have toward our fellow servants.

Key themes in this lesson include:

  • The Faithful vs. Evil Servant: Understanding that those given responsibility are expected to provide "food in due season" for others. We discuss the danger of thinking the Master is "delaying his coming" and how that leads to spiritual distraction and the mistreatment of others.
  • Degrees of Responsibility: Reflecting on the truth that "to whom much is given, from him much will be required." We explore how our knowledge and resources increase our accountability before God.
  • The Ten Virgins: A look at the necessity of spiritual endurance. We can't rely on the "oil" of others—our zeal and sincerity must be our own, and we must keep our lamps burning continually.
  • The Urgency of "Now": Why we cannot wait until the last minute to repent or prepare. The door will eventually be shut, and we must be found doing the Master's will whenever He returns.

Ultimately, these parables serve as a warning and an encouragement. It is a joy to serve the Lord, but it requires being deliberate and prepared for the long haul. Join us as we consider how to be wise servants who are ready to meet the Lord at any hour.
