Daniel: The Historical Story

In this study, we explore the historical half of the book of Daniel. While Daniel is well-known for its deep prophecies, the first six chapters provide us with a powerful narrative of faithfulness, courage, and God’s absolute sovereignty over the nations of the earth.

We walk through the major events and themes found in these historical accounts:

  • Faithfulness in a Foreign Land: How Daniel and his friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego), purposed in their hearts not to defile themselves while serving in the Babylonian palace.
  • God, the Giver of Wisdom: A look at how God blessed these young men with knowledge and understanding, making them "ten times better" than all the king's advisors.
  • The Revealer of Secrets: The story of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream and how God used Daniel to reveal the "secret" that no other wise man could uncover.
  • The Fiery Furnace: A powerful lesson on trusting God’s power to save, as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood firm against idolatry even in the face of death.
  • Humbling the Prideful: The accounts of King Nebuchadnezzar being driven to madness and King Belshazzar’s downfall, showing that God alone controls the rise and fall of kings.
  • The Lions' Den: How Daniel’s commitment to prayer led him to the pit, and how God "shut the lions' mouths" to demonstrate His deliverance.

Join us as we learn that God is worthy of our full trust, His kingdom is eternal, and He is more than able to humble the proud and deliver those who remain faithful to Him.
